Corvenn Reef

A south cardinal mark on a reef that uncovers twice a day. Pass to the south of it, always.

Corvenn is not a lighthouse in the sense the public understands the word. It is a lattice of galvanised steel bolted directly into a reef that uncovers to two metres at low water springs, carrying a lamp, a solar array and nothing else. There has never been a keeper. There has never been anywhere for a keeper to stand.

Its character is a cardinal one and it carries an instruction rather than an identity. Six quick flashes followed by a long flash means south: safe water lies south of this mark. Mariners are not asked to recognise Corvenn. They are asked to read what it is telling them and act on it before they are close enough to recognise anything at all.
